Drainage Improvements Planned For Puetz, Forest Hill Area

The city hopes to finally address long-standing drainage issues between Puetz Road and Forest Hill Avenue.

A $250,000 project that will get under way this fall will address longstanding drainage issues between E. Puetz Road and E. Forest Hill Avenue.

The project includes a new box culvert under E. Forest Hill Ave. that will lower the floodplain south of the street, as well as ditch clearing and grading work.

Work will extend from Puetz Road to Forest Hill along the west side of the railroad tracks, then north of Forest Hill to the creek, City Engineer Mike Simmons said.

The area is one of the city's biggest problem spots for flooding after heavy rains. Oak Creek has wanted to make the improvements for awhile, but the project was delayed while the city waited for necessary approvals from Union Pacific Railroad, Simmons said.

Some work will begin this fall before snow hits, and the remainder of the project will be completed in the spring.

The Oak Creek Common Council on Tuesday approved a $249,904 contract with Advance Construction for the work.
