Flags Ordered to Fly Half-Staff in Honor of Fallen Fond du Lac Officer

Officer was killed in the line of duty Sunday.

Gov. Scott Walker has ordered that all U.S. and state of Wisconsin flags fly at half-staff this week in honor of Fond du Lac Police Officer Craig Birkholz, who was killed in the line of duty Sunday

Walker's executive order states flags should be at half-staff through sunset Saturday, the day of Birkholz's memorial service. 

In addition to his police work, Birkholz, 28, was a six-year Army veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

He was one of two officers shot Sunday when they responded to a report of a man firing a gun. The other officer survived but remains in the hospital.

The gunman was found dead of a self-inflicted gun wound, according to reports.
