Governor Signs Jobs Legislation in Oak Creek

'Wisconsin Wins' was authored by state Rep. Mark Honadel.

Gov. Scott Walker was in Oak Creek on Monday to sign legislation known as "" into law.

Walker appeared at , 1800 W. Ridgeview Drive to sign the bill, which was authored by Oak Creek's state representative, Mark Honadel.

Under the plan, unemployment claimants could get part-time training jobs with interested employers, with the possibility of permanent employment afterward.

Honadel has said the proposal benefits both employers and the unemployed: companies increase the probability of a good hire, while job seekers get an opportunity to show off their skills and potentially turn training into full-time employment.

The bill found bipartisan support, passing the Senate and the Assembly unanimously.

"This legislation will help place job seekers directly into the workplace for on the job training," Walker said in a news release. "It is fitting that we're signing this law at a company that would be able to utilize this kind of program. State Representative Mark Honadel and Senator Van Wanggaard did a fantastic job authoring and providing leadership on this important bill."

According to the news release, JX Peterbuilt is in discussions with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development to implement the training program.
