Hoan Bridge, I-794 Construction Looms

Construction will begin in September on a two-year project improving I-794 and the Hoan Bridge.

While many road construction projects are finishing or moving into the late stages, one major project that will impact many Oak Creek residents' commute will only just begin next month.

Work on the Hoan Bridge and Interstate 794 reconstruction project will start in September, state Department of Transportation spokesman Michael Pyritz said.

The DOT wanted to start the project after construction on I-94/43 between Howard Avenue and Canal Street, which is now completed, and following this week's Harley Davidson anniversary festivities, Pyritz said.

Construction on 794 is expected to last until 2016. Initial work this fall will focus on improving local intersections and building ramps and crossovers to prepare for construction.

The project consists of three major components: removing and replacing bridges on I-794, replacing the Hoan Bridge deck and repairing concrete on the Lake Interchange, according to the DOT website

The reconfiguration of the Lake Interchange ramps is planned as a separate project.
