Hovde Wins Oak Creek U.S. Senate Vote

Eric Hovde finished second in the race for the Republican U.S. Senate nomination, but beat Tommy Thompson in Oak Creek.

While Tommy Thompson won the Republican U.S. Senate primary Tuesday, Oak Creek voters bucked the state and went for runner-up Eric Hovde.

Hovde got 35 percent of the vote in Oak Creek (1,352 votes) compared to 31 percent for Thompson (1,195).

Jeff Fitzgerald pulled in 18 percent of the vote (686) while Mark Neumann got 16 percent (618), finishing well behind the front-runners.

Voter turnout in Oak Creek was 21.8 percent.

Thompson's win sets up a matchup with Democrat Tammy Baldwin, who ran uncontested, for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Herb Kohl. The general election is Nov. 6.
