Is Oak Creek Postal Facility Dead?

Plans to close thousands of post offices not a good sign for mail-processing center at College and Pennsylvania.

The U.S. Postal Service earlier this week announced plans to close between 3,700 to 32,000 retail outlets across the country.

The Oak Creek post office, 200 E. Centennial Dr., wasn't on the list. But the news certainly doesn't bode well for the huge mail-processing facility that was supposed to be built at the corner of College and Pennsylvania avenues.

BizTimes.com reported Tuesday that one postal official believed it was "dead," while another said that no decisions had been made.

Now it appears that, more than three years later, neighbors might get what they wanted after all.

that plans were still on hold, just like they had been since the recession kicked in at the end of 2008. The postal service still owns the 64-acre property, but with the recent news of thousands of post offices potentially closing, it's hard to see it ever being built.

Rain or snow can't stop them, but the economy sure can.
