Lease For Civic Center Property Approved

With land swaps finalized, the city of Oak Creek will lease the property at Puetz and Howell from the Oak Creek-Franklin School District.

The Oak Creek Common Council has signed off on a lease between the city and the Oak Creek-Franklin School District for the land at Puetz and Howell.

Under the agreement, the city is leasing the property now home to the city hall, library, Fire Station 1 and Oak Creek Community Center for $1 per year. The lease ends 180 days after substantial completion of the new city hall and library at the former Delphi site, or on Dec. 31, 2015.

The lease comes three months after the to a series of land swaps involving the school district, city and Wispark, the developer and owner of the Delphi site.

In addition to the Civic Center property at Puetz and Howell, which the school district plans to use for an expansion of Oak Creek High School, the district gets a 16-acre parcel at 2200 W. Drexel Ave. for a future elementary school; Wispark gets 50 acres on Oakwood Road for the development of a business park; and the city gets seven acres on the Delphi site for the city hall and library.

Construction on a new city hall and library is expected to finish by July 2014.
