Wind Turbine To Be Built at MATC's Oak Creek Campus

The 47-foot high structure, smaller than the turbines typically seen on wind farms, will be reviewed Tuesday by the Oak Creek Plan Commission.

Milwaukee Area Technical College wants to erect a 47-foot high wind turbine at its , 6665 S. Howell Ave.

The wind turbine would be used in the school's Energy Conservation and Advanced Manufacturing curriculum, according to a report to Oak Creek Plan Commission members.

It's smaller than what is typically seen on wind farms, where turbines can reach well over 100 feet.

"Given its location on the MATC campus and relatively small size, staff does not feel that the structure will have much of a visible impact on the surrounding area," according to the report.

Because of the proximity to Mitchell International Airport, the wind turbine couldn't be more than 50 feet high.
