'New Day For Oak Creek': City Unveils New Logo, Branding

The city is re-branding itself as it embarks on several major development projects and continues to transform.

The way Oak Creek city leaders see it, the community is heading into a new era.

As it embarks on major development projects at the former Delphi site, lakefront and Oakwood Road, the city has released a new logo as part of a major re-branding of the community.

It's the first logo change in more than 20 years and will slowly begin showing up on street signage, welcome signs, business cards and all other city-branded materials.

And the logo is just the start. Over the coming weeks and months, the city will unveil a new website, a "My Oak Creek" YouTube series and a social media campaign called "Around the Town with Mayor Steve."

"Our goal is to convey a real sense of the strong, growing community we have in Oak Creek," Mayor Steve Scaffidi said in a news release. "We're building for our future, and our new brand identity reflects that. I'm excited that we finally get to reveal all the great things we've been planning for both our current and future residents and businesses."

The logo is broken down into three parts:

  • The enclosing circle, which represents Oak Creek's "inclusive community";
  • An oak leaf, reflecting the city's name and a connection to nature;
  • Water, showing the city's connection to Lake Michigan.

The logo was launched Wednesday night to dozens of business leaders, developers and elected officials. The logo and a short video, which can be viewed on the city's Facebook page, were also shown to city employees and the Oak Creek Common Council on Tuesday.

The city proclaimed on is website Thursday that "it's a new day in Oak Creek," which goes far beyond a logo change.

A marketing consulting firm, Savage Solutions, has spent the last four months in Oak Creek, visiting residents and businesses and putting together documentary-style videos that "tell the story of Oak Creek."

The entire project will be rolled out over a long period of time, Savage Solutions President Cory Savage said. The next major release will be the new website.

Savage said he's been excited by the feedback so far. The city hired his company last October.

"The project has been better than expected," Savage said.

The re-branding comes as the city plans the Drexel Town Square project, which will create a new downtown for Oak Creek; a major redevelopment of the city's lakefront; and the development of a business park on Oakwood Road near Howell Avenue.

"I'm excited to see us marketing our city just like you would a business," Alderman Jim Ruetz said. "It's important to do that and be progressive rather than status quo."
