Construction Could Start Next Month on New Fire Station

Plans to build a new fire station at 255 E. Centennial Drive in Oak Creek took a step forward Tuesday.

Plans for a new fire station in Oak Creek took a step forward Tuesday, as the site for the new building was cleared for construction.

The Oak Creek Common Council approved a zoning change for 255 E. Centennial Drive, where the station will be located. The move was a formality for the project, as crews began clearing the wooded area in May.

"I think this is a good use of that land," Mayor Steve Scaffidi said. "We are keeping most of those woods in tact ... and I think it's going to be good for the city."

Construction on the new fire station could begin in August or September. Plans call for a two-story building about the same size as the department headquarters at 7000 S. 6th St.

The project is part of a round of construction projects in Oak Creek, most notably the Drexel Town Square development.
