New Year Brings New Garbage Service

The city privatized its garbage pickup, which is now handled by Johns Disposal Service. But residents shouldn't see any changes.

Oak Creek residents may have noticed a different truck picking up their garbage after the calendar turned to 2013.

Or maybe they didn't. In any event, Johns Disposal Service is the new garbage pickup provider in Oak Creek, taking the duties away from the city's street department.

The Oak Creek Common Council approved privatizing garbage pickup in November as a cost-cutting measure, saving about $82,000 per year.

City officials say residents should not notice any changes besides a different-colored truck. Service days, guidelines and the blue bins remain the same.

Residents with service problems should contact Johns Disposal at (262) 473-4700. Garbage cart repairs and replacements are still made through the street department at (414) 570-5682.
