Oak Creek Alderman Announces State Assembly Bid

Ken Gehl will seek the state Assembly seat vacated by Mark Honadel.

Oak Creek Aldermen Ken Gehl announced Tuesday he will enter the race for state Assembly.

In a statement, Gehl said he wanted to continue the efforts of Mark Honadel, who resigned Monday after 10 years in the Legislature.

Specifically, Gehl said he would push for job creation and training, infrastructure projects, school choice and voucher programs and gun-owner rights.

"I've strongly supported Governor Walker's reforms and I look forward to the opportunity to carry on Mark's legacy," he said.

Gehl also touted the endorsement of Oak Creek Mayor Steve Scaffidi in his announcement. Scaffidi declared his intentions to run for the Assembly seat before changing his mind a few days later.

The special election will be held Nov. 19, with a primary Oct. 22.

Gehl, a vice president and supervisory analyst at Robert W. Baird, was first elected to the Common Council in 2009. He also made a run for county supervisor in 2012.

Gehl is the second candidate, along with Republican Jessie Rodriguez, to publicly announce he would seek the Assembly seat.
