Oak Creek Considers Outsourcing Trash Pick-Up

Officials say $82,000 could be saved.

Might Oak Creek take the trash out of its budget?

The Oak Creek Common Council may vote Tuesday to solicit bids for the outsourcing of trash-collection services.

Aldermen previously directed city staffers to analyze how much Oak Creek would save by privatizing trash pick-up. Officials came back with a report estimating $82,000 could be saved, and added that additional long-term savings would likely result through cutting four full-time positions and making operational changes.

The privatization might look similar to Oak Creek's contract with Veolia for recycling services.

The council voting to solicit bids, however, would only be a preliminary step in a possible outsourcing.
