Oak Creek Goes To Romney, Thompson

Republicans didn't fare well across the state Tuesday night, but they found favor with Oak Creek residents.

Former Gov. Mitt Romney garnered 10,024 votes (54 percent) compared to 8,427 (46 percent) for President Barack Obama.

Obama, however, carried Wisconsin and several other key swing states on his way to win a second term in the White House.

In the U.S. Senate race, former Gov. Tommy Thompson got 9,778 votes (55 percent) in Oak Creek to U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin's 8,132 (45 percent).

Baldwin won the race to replace the retiring U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl.

U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, while he lost his bid for vice president, easily won another term to represent the 1st District, which includes Oak Creek. He got 10,270 votes (59 percent) in the city against challenger Rob Zerban's 7,080 (41 percent).

In the state Assembly race, Republican incumbent Mark Honadel was cruising to a win over Democratic challenger Bill Kurtz. Honadel had 10,853 votes (62 percent), while Kurtz had 6,726 votes (38 percent).

The Assembly district also includes South Milwaukee and part of Franklin. With 81 percent of the vote tallied, Honadel had 60 percent of the vote, according to Patch's media partners at Fox 6.

All results remain unofficial until certified by the Board of Canvassers.

Voter turnout in Oak Creek was at 88.6 percent. Many residents took advantage of early and absentee balloting, with almost 30 percent casting a ballot prior to Election Day.

Turnout was huge in the early morning, but quickly quieted the rest of the day.
