Plan Commission Will Take Up Land Swaps

Commission will discuss proposal to exchange lands between city, school district, Wispark.

The Oak Creek Plan Commission next week will discuss proposed land exchanges between the city, school district and Wispark.

The commission will make a recommendation to the Oak Creek Common Council, which is expected to vote on the matter April 2, the day before the general election.

The council was originally scheduled to vote on the proposal Tuesday night but determined it needed to go through the commission first.

Under the plan, which was March 12, the school district would exchange 50 acres of undeveloped property at Oakwood and Howell avenues for the Civic Center site at the corner of Puetz and Howell.

The city would then exchange the Oakwood land with Wispark, the development arm of We Energies, for seven acres at the former Delphi site on which to build a library and city hall. Wispark plans to develop the Oakwood land into a business park.

The Plan Commission meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in , 8640 S. Howell Ave.

Since when is 50 acres worth less then 7 acres ?? It seems to me that we are giving wi park a big fat kiss we already sols them land for less the what we paid for it then gave them 3 mil. to purchase the Delphi site. The aldermen need to go back to school and take there math class over .

unmitagated ignorance! On what planet did these aldermen learn math? They are supposed to be representing the resedents of Oak Creek not WeEnergies/WisPark. And frankly anything that involves the school board is automaticly suspect due to their past record. This entire project should be suspended until a referendum vote by the citizens can be held.

Since when is 50 acres worth less then 7 acres ?? As the realtor's say "location-location-location". Seven acres in a prime spot versus 50 of undeveloped farmland...it's probably closer than we think. Regardless, Oak Creek is fixing mistakes made years ago and is trying to plan for more places for people to work and schools that actually fit all of the kids. Stay the course Oak Creek...in the end we'll all benefit for the hard work and tough decisions being made.
