Protesters Return to Howell Avenue

Organizer says they will come back every Monday as long as it takes to fight Walker's proposal.

Protesters were back on Howell Avenue Monday afternoon to show their opposition to Gov. Scott Walker's budget-repair bill.

By 4:15 p.m., about 25 were on the sidewalk in the 8500 block, between the public library and community center, displaying pro-union signs to the Howell Avenue traffic. 

More than 100 turned out for a . An organizer said they will return every Monday for as long as it takes to fight back against Walker's plan, which would effectively eliminate collective bargaining for most of the state's public-sector unions.

The bill early Friday morning but remains in limbo, as Senate Democrats are still in Illinois. 

Walker will present his budget address tomorrow afternoon. His proposal is expected to include deep cuts in aid to local governments and school districts.
