Public Hearing Wednesday on Sheraton Hotel Plans

Financial difficulties have delayed construction on a Four Points by Sheraton hotel and large parking lot for airport travelers.

A public hearing will be held Wednesday on changes to a hotel development planned near the corner of College and Howell avenues in Oak Creek.

Plans call for a four-story, 108-room Four Points by Sheraton and a large parking lot for Mitchell International Airport travelers. It was first approved in 2011, but financial difficulties delayed the start of construction.

The project was kept alive when the city and developer reached a deal in August that scaled back both the proposal and Oak Creek's financial commitment.

Because of the delays, the zoning expired, meaning the plans need fresh approvals. The public hearing will be held at 7 p.m. in city hall, 8640 S. Howell Ave.
