Rawson Interchange Construction Prompts Ramp, Lane Closures

Three interchange ramps and multiple lanes on Rawson Avenue are closed, which will be a theme throughout the rest of the year.

The reconstruction of the Rawson Interchange is in full swing, which means a host of ramp and lane closures throughout the rest of the year.Β

The state Department of Transportation says motorists can expect these closures for the time being:

  • The entrance ramp to I-94 east (southbound);
  • The (loop) entrance ramp to I-94 west (northbound);
  • The I-94 west (northbound) exit ramp.

Drivers familiar with the area have probably already noticed lane reductions on Rawson near the interchange. More closures will take place as construction moves along this summer.

The project is expected to be completed in late fall. See more details on the construction timeline here.

Crews are reconstructing the interchange into a "tight diamond," meaning ramp connections with the cross street will be brought closer to I-94. Officials say this will allow for better traffic flow between the interchange and 13th and 20th streets.
