Ryan Interchange Reconstruction Expected to Be Delayed Until 2015

To close a shortfall in Wisconsin's transportation fund, state lawmakers recommend delaying large highway projects in the Milwaukee area.

To help close a shortfall in Wisconsin's transportation fund, state lawmakers recommended Thursday to delay work on large highway projects in the Milwaukee area, including construction on the Ryan Road Interchange, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Reconstruction of the interchange had been scheduled for next year as part of the state Department of Transportation's massive Interstate 94 north-south widening project — which includes the highway between the airport and Illinois border.

Delaying the work would defer $19 million in state spending, the Journal reports. In all, $59.5 million in highway projects would be delayed, until 2015 at least, to help bridge a $63.4 million gap in the state transportation fund.
