Steve Taylor Opts Against Assembly Run

County Supervisor Steve Taylor hinted at running for Franklin mayor in announcing he will not seek the open Assembly seat.

County Supervisor Steve Taylor, who has been mentioned as a possible Republican candidate for the state Assembly, said Thursday he will not run in this fall's special election.

Taylor said he has more he wants to accomplish on the Milwaukee County Board, including infrastructure, parks and other projects, and also hinted at a possible run for Franklin mayor next spring.

He told Patch last week he is considering doing so following Mayor Tom Taylor's announcement that he would not seek a fourth term.

"Being in the Assembly would not allow me to serve locally, and due to recent political announcements, my departure would leave a void which would be felt by the city’s residents," said Taylor, who is also a Franklin alderman.

"At a time when Franklin is growing with great developmental potential, it needs leadership, experience and a vision."

Taylor also left open the possibility of running for state office in the future, saying "serving at the state level is something I have wanted to do for as long as I can remember."

"There will be a time when I run for a state office, but that time is not now," Taylor said.

Four candidates—all Republicans—have declared their intentions to run for the seat vacated by Mark Honadel, who resigned Monday.

A primary will be held Oct. 22, with the general election set for Nov. 19.
