Cerniglia Will Apply For Open Oak Creek-Franklin School Board Seat

Board will make appointment Dec. 12.

The next member of the Oak Creek-Franklin School Board might be a familiar face.

Sheryl Cerniglia said Thursday that she will apply for the School Board seat that was recently vacated by Jim Gilmeister. Cerniglia served on the School Board for nine years before she was .

No other candidates for the position are yet known. Residents have until 4:30 p.m. Nov. 22 to submit an application, which can be picked up at the . The board will interview candidates Nov. 28 and make its selection Dec. 12.

Cerniglia has continued to attend School Board meetings throughout the last several months and would figure to be the favorite to be appointed. She’s still well-liked and highly-regarded among School Board members and would come into the position with knowledge of the school district’s inner workings.

Gilmeister endorsed Cerniglia in an interview with Patch Tuesday.

“If anybody should be on it, it’s Sheryl,” Gilmeister said.

Whoever is appointed will serve the remaining four months of Gilmeister’s term and would have to run in the spring elections to hold onto the seat.

The vacancy was created after , citing a conflict with his position as girls' basketball coach.
