East Middle School Teacher Honored

Fowler wins $1,000 award from Kohl education foundation.

East Middle School teacher Marissa Fowler has received a $1,000 Herb Kohl Foundation Fellowship award.

Fellowship recipients are chosen for their ability to inspire a love of learning in students, their ability to motivate others and for leadership and service inside and outside the classroom, according to a news release.

As part of the award, East Middle School will also receive a $1,000 grant.

There is no restriction on Fowler can use her award, though the foundation encourages the school use its matching grant "for innovation in education," according to the foundation website.

The Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Scholarship and Fellowship Program gave $1,000 awards to 100 teachers, their schools, and 181 graduating high school students throughout the state.

The senator established the Kohl Foundation Scholarship and Fellowship program in 1990. The foundation has awarded $7.4 million to Wisconsin educators, students and schools since then.
