Edgewood 'Read-A-Thon' Raises $2k

School will purchase SMART boards with money raised.

Edgewood Elementary's "Read-a-Thon" last month raised nearly $2,000.

About 40 students and families participated in the event, in which kids collected pledges and read for 90 minutes in the gym.

The money raised will go toward purchasing SMART boards in classrooms as well as the school-wide reading incentive program. SMART boards are interactive, electronic whiteboards that are becoming commonplace in schools across the country.
