High School Track Resurfacing on School District's To-Do List

Projects is one of 15 proposed capital improvements next school year.

The Oak Creek High School track is in bad shape, and has been for awhile.

It could be in line for improvements soon, however, under a plan to be presented to the Oak Creek-Franklin School Board in March.

The track was on a list of 15 proposed capital improvement projects, worth about $1.25 million in total, the school might undertake during the 2011-12 school year.

Other projects include the re-grading of a physical-education field at East Middle School, replacing the PA system at Edgewood and creating additional parking at Deerfield.

The projects are prioritized and ranked 1 through 15. The bad news for high school track athletes is the resurfacing project is number 15. If the district finds out it won't have as much money as first thought, the track will likely be pushed back a year.

No matter what, the resurfacing, with an estimated cost of $168,000, will not be done in time for this year's track season.

Some repairs were done last year. School Board Member Sheryl Cerniglia said that in the last few years, there have been concerns about injuries caused by the surface.

The School Board will take up the list of projects March 14.Β Even if approved, it is subject to change because the district still has to wait for its budget to become certain.Β
