How are Oak Creek's Teachers Spending Summer Vacation?

Patch recently caught up with a few of OCHS's teachers to see what they're doing with their summer breaks.

Summer vacation is a magical time in the lives of youths. It means freedom, fun and no homework. Teachers are also off for the summer, though plenty of them also continue to teach summer school. The ones that don't, often have some other job or vocation during the break to keep them occupied, but that doesn't mean they can't also have a little fun. Some of OCHS's teachers were kind enough to share their summer plans with us.

Elizabeth Fritz - Drama/English:

"I am spending lots of quality time with my son, Chayton, who was born this past January. Additionally, I will be graduating from Viterbo University, LaCrosse, WI,  in July with my Master's degree in Education."

Kathleen Scaffidi - Math:

"I'm teaching summer school."

Robert Engebretson - German:

"I just returned from Germany on June 27th. I took 10 Oak Creek students along with Ms. Jody Rodewald as a chaperone for three weeks to the city of Frankenthal in Rheinland-Pfalz. The students and teachers lived for three weeks with host families and attended classes at Albert-Einstein Gymnasium (a type of high school in Germany). We had some nice excursions to Schloss Rheinfels on the Rhine River, Mannheim, Heidelberg, Munich and Speyer. The students came away with good language skills, knowledge of German culture and strong friendships.

I plan on camping in Northern Wisconsin and maybe return to Munich to attend a seminar to enrich my language skills."

Kristen Lauer - English:

"I work teaching summer school (Sophomore English and a few computer-based History courses) and I work year-round at Lakefront Brewery where I'm a tour guide. Additionally, I have a nine month old son who I enjoy spending time with, along with my husband (another Oak Creek teacher). Aside from that, I play volleyball and mainly enjoy family time."

Thanks for sharing teachers and enjoy your summer!
