Mock Car Crash Teaches Oak Creek Students Real-Life Consequences

Accident scene re-created outside high school Thursday.

Two days before prom and a just few weeks ahead of graduation, Oak Creek students were given a vivid reminder of what could happen if they are unsafe on the roads.

A mock car crash featuring student actors, the Oak Creek Fire and Police departments, Flight for Life and even the Heritage Funeral Home was held outside the high school Thursday afternoon.

The group recreated an accident scene in which a person is killed on a bicycle, a boy led away in handcuffs and others dead or wounded. It serves to remind students of the real-life consequences of not only drinking and driving, but other dangerous driving behaviors, like texting or talking on a cell phone.

The event has been held every two years by the Students Against Destructive Decisions, said the group's advisor, Julie Shandley. It also doubles as a training exercise for the Oak Creek Fire Department.
