New School Year, New Principal at Meadowview

Melissa Rezner comes over from Oak Creek High School.

Melissa Rezner has worked in education for many years, but her first day of school today promises to be much different than in the past.

And today will be different for students, as well - Rezner is their new principal after spending the past 10 years as a special education teacher at the high school.

Rezner spent the first part of her career as an elementary school teacher, primarily in Milwaukee Public Schools. She got her administrative license a little more than two years ago and completed an administrative internship at during summer school this year.

It was after that when to take a principal position in the Delevan-Darien School District. Rezner said Superintendent Sara Burmeister called her to see if she would be interested and soon offered her the position.

Rezner said she expects challenges in her first principal job, but so far there haven't been many surprises.

"It's a lot of new things, but for the most part it's what I expect the job to be," she said. "But there's a lot to learn and I'm sure a lot more I'm going to be learning over the next couple years."

Rezner's first official day on the job was Aug. 8, though things start for real today when the kids walk through the door.

Rezner said she is looking forward to seeing teachers in action, meeting the 450 students that go to Meadowview and getting involved in school programs.

"It's a strong community here at Meadowview and I think it’s going to be a great place to work," she said.

"I'm excited for the school year to start and to get things moving along. All this anticipation – it will be nice to just have the kids here and see everything in action."
