Oak Creek ACT Scores Hold Steady

Oak Creek High School also reached a new high for ACT participation.

Oak Creek High School saw ACT scores hold relatively steady in the 2012-13 school year—mirroring a state trend—while also hitting a high-water mark of students taking the test.

Oak Creek students' average composite score was 21.8 last year, compared to 21.7 in the year prior, according to state Department of Public Instruction data released Wednesday

The district was below the state average of 22.1, which remained the same from a year ago. Oak Creek students beat the national average of 20.9.

Oak Creek High School had 66.5 percent of students take the test—the highest percentage since the 1997-98 school year when the senior class had 281 students in it.

By contrast, the class of 2013 had 495 students, according to the DPI data. It's the second year in a row Oak Creek reached a new benchmark in ACT participation

Wisconsin's ACT scores ranked second in the nation, behind only Minnesota, which had a composite score of 23.

"Our 2013 graduates performed well on the ACT college admissions exam," State Superintendent Tony Evers said in a news release. "We have work to do to get students to take the rigorous coursework that will prepare them for college and careers and will help bridge achievement gaps."
