Oak Creek Girl Finalist For Teen Pageant

Colleen Schmidt will head to Wisconsin Dells for statewide competition.

2011 Oak Creek High School graduate Colleen Schmidt has been chosen as a finalist for the Miss Wisconsin state pageant to be held Aug. 27-28 in Wisconsin Dells.

Schmidt has been active in swimming, church youth group, music and tutoring. She graduated high school in just three years after missing a year in middle school due to illness. She will attend Carthage College on a $32,000 scholarship.

The National American Miss program, which has five age divisions for girls 4-18, is based on inner beauty, poise and presentation, according to a news release. Emphasis is put on the importance of gaining self-confidence, learning good sportsmanship and setting and achieving personal goals.

The winner receives $1,000 and a trip to California to compete in the national competition.
