Oak Creek High School Graduation Rate Among Best In Area

The way to calculate the rates changed for 2010, but Oak Creek was near the top of the list.

Even with a mandatory change in the way school districts calculate the number of students who graduate with regular high school diplomas, Oak Creek High School remains one of the best in churning out graduates.

The state Department of Public Instruction released the 2010 graduation rates on Thursday. The change, which Amy Hetzner of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel covered in more detail in a story yesterday, now calculates only those students who have graduated by the summer of their fourth year in high school.

Under the new system, Oak Creek's success rate went up to 98.81 percent, from 98.62 under the old system. The school trailed only Pewaukee (98.90) among non-charter high schools in the metropolitan Milwaukee area.

Oak Creek was one of the rare high schools with a rate which actually increased - almost all schools' rates decreased under the new method.
