Oak Creek West Middle School Lego Team Nominated for Awards

Team invited to compete in state championship.

The First Lego League team, #1690 Red Rain, had a great day at the Waukesha Regional FLL Tournament on Nov. 12.

The team received nominations in five of the nine core judged areas at the tournament and was nominated for consideration as a Champion's Award recipient. It was awarded the Gracious Professionalism Award.

To receive a nomination in an award category, Red Rain had to place in the top four teams for that category (out of 33 teams).

Here are descriptions of the awards for which they were nominated:

Gracious Professionalism: This award recognizes a team whose members show each other and other teams respect at all times. They recognize that both friendly competition and mutual gain are possible, on and off the playing field.

Strategy and Innovation (Robot): This award is for a team that uses solid engineering practices and a well-developed strategy to design and build an innovative, high-performing robot.

Research (Project): This award recognizes a team that utilizes diverse resources to formulate an in-depth and comprehensive understanding of the problem they have identified.

Innovative Solution (Project): This award recognizes a team's solution that is exceptionally well-considered and creative, with good potential to solve the problem researched.

Presentation (Project): This award recognizes a team the effectively communicates the problem they have identified and their proposed solution to both the judges and other potential supporters.

Champions: The top award in First Lego League. This award recognizes a team that embodies the FLL experience, by fully embracing FLL Core Values while achieving excellence and innovation in both the Robot Game and Project.

The team also received an invitation to the Wisconsin State First Lego League Championship, to be held from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Dec. 11 in Mukwonago.
