More than 800 students from across southeastern Wisconsin descended on Oak Creek High School Saturday for a Future Business Leaders of America regional conference.
High school and middle school students competed in events ranging from accounting to web site design, parliamentary procedure to business law. They also participated in business workshops that included presentations by Men's Wearhouse on "dressing for success," Just Kidding Clothing on business and marketing strategies and Bryant and Stratton College on social media and business ethics.
The day's keynote speaker was Jack Elrod, president and chief executive officer of T.W. Metals.
The event was a huge undertaking for Oak Creek students and teachers, who spent weeks preparing. In addition, 30 OCHS students qualified for the Wisconsin FBLA State Leadership Conference by finishing in the top three of their categories.
"It was a tremendous learning experience for our students," said business teacher Mike Burden, who coordinated the event. "The amount of planning, effort, teamwork that it took make it all happen was incredible.
"Watching the Oak Creek students standing up and leading a conference of over 800 of their peers from southeastern Wisconsin was a wonderful sight to see."
