School Board Accepts Eight Retirements

Four high school teachers among those stepping down at end of the year.

The Oak Creek-Franklin School Board last night accepted the retirements of eight teachers, including four at the high school.

The retiring teachers are:

  • Mary Jane Berndt, third-grade teacher at Carollton;
  • Sallie Bray, family and consumer education teacher at the high school;
  • Laura Dachel, library clerk at Shepard Hills;
  • George Haddican, seventh-grade science teacher at East;
  • James Hauerwas, physical-education teacher at the high school;
  • Lynda Krahulec, kindergarten teacher at Edgewood;
  • Susan Kwiecien, business-education teacher at the high school;
  • Gail Shellestad, alternative-education teacher at the high school.

Twenty-seven teachers total have filed for retirement, Superintendent Sara Burmeister . Burmeister has also said the number of retirements this year is much higher than normal, mostly because of all the uncertainty surrounding the state budget and retirement costs.
