Whiz Kid: Gina Miliacca

Oak Creek girl wins "Distinguished Young Woman" honors Sunday.

Gina Miliacca was named this year's Distinguished Young Woman of Oak Creek (formerly Junior Miss) Sunday in the 50th anniversary of the program.

Miliacca attends Martin Luther High School and has been involved with a host of activities, including Sunday School teaching, National Honor Society, basketball, symphonic band and Miss Badger State. She also took sixth in the nation in baton twirling (see a full list of her honors and activities ).

Participants are evaluated in five categories: interview, worth 25 percent of the total score; scholastics, worth 20 percent; talent, 25 percent; and fitness and self-expression, each worth 15 percent.

Miliacca won $400 in cash scholarships and will also participate in Distinguished Young Women of Wisconsin in August.

The other two contestants were Rita Fadness and Katie Damitz, both of Oak Creek High School. Fadness was awarded the Spirit Award and Scholastics Preliminary Award, while Damitz won the Program Promotion Award.
