Girls Basketball: Luke Headed to UWGB

Oak Creek standout granted a release from Illinois-Chicago.

Ashley Luke, who helped lead Oak Creek's highly-successful girls basketball team, will play for the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay next year after originally committing to Illinois-Chicago.

Luke was granted a release from her commitment to UIC after the school fired coach Luke Ryckbosch, according to the Green Bay Press Gazette

In a statement issued by UW-Green Bay, Luke said UIC "just didn't feel like the right fit anymore."

"After watching Green Bay's game against Baylor, hearing about their work ethic and seeing the video on coach (Matt) Bollant's locker room speech was really inspirational," she said.

"Getting the opportunity to call Green Bay once I was released and have an offer was awesome. The more I found out about Green Bay the more excited and anxious I was to come here."

Luke averaged 14.5 points and nine rebounds per game in her senior season and helped . She received all-state honorable mention from the Associated Press and was named an All-State Team selection by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association.

"I watched her play a lot in AAU and knew she had really good feet, is a great athlete and great kid with a lot of potential," Bollant said in a news release. "She will fit real well in Green Bay; she's a bright kid and is an early academic qualifier with the NCAA."
