Lady Knights Looking to Build Tennis Program

The program has a record 75 girls participating this fall.

The girls tennis team is looking to be competitive this season despite many changes to their lineup.

"This year we have 75 girls throughout the varsity, JV and freshmen teams," said head coach Don Tellefsen, who also heads the boys program in the spring. "We are always retooling and looking to get better."

The new look lineup got off to a great start with a fourth-place finish last week at a 16-team tournament hosted by South Milwaukee and Oak Creek. The Knights took care of Port Washington (7-0) and West Allis (4-3) on day one before dropping two tough duals to Racine Case (4-3) and Wauwatosa West (6-1).

The Knights continued that strong start into the Southeast Conference season with a 7-0 dual win over Racine Park.

Serena Sellers is leading the Knights in the early season at No. 1 singles, Julia Marin is in the two spot, Megan Koss is third and Dominika Steinova is fourth.

The top doubles team of Amanda Stoltz and Lauren Anderson has played very strong in the early going. The No. 2 doubles team of Ceberina Orosz and Morgan Schlueter and No. 3 team of Lauren Fischer and Guharaji has also been very strong in the early going.

Tellefsen knows that the top of the Southeast Conference is going to be a tough hill to climb with very good Racine Case and Muskego teams.

"If we can place third in conference, that would be a very good accomplishment," he said.

As for individual accomplishments, the coach is always looking to get a player to state, but knows that isn't always the most important thing.

"Team bonding and creating friendships is a big part of it," he said. "On the court, getting the girls as many matches as possible is my goal. There is no better way to test your ability than to play against other girls and know where you stand."
