Whiz Kids: OCHS Boys' Basketball Award Winners

Knights handed out annual awards at year-end banquet March 27.

This week's Oak Creek Patch Whiz Kid recognition goes to a group of OCHS basketball players recently honored at their annual year-end banquet.Β 

Under , the varsity Knights finished 6-17, their best record since 2005. And Oak Creek figures to only get better, as it graduates just two seniors.

"Oak Creek basketball will continue to improve, as we have the quality of young men involved necessary to be successful," Jossie said in an e-mail.

The Knights handed out several awards at its March 27 event. Among them was the White Team award, given to a player whose role on the team is less than glamorous, but is always at practice, working hard and making himself and the team better.

"The White Team Award recipient is a very prestigious award and one we take very seriously," Jossie said.

The team's "Mr. Basketball" award is given to aΒ student-athlete with a love for the game and the desire to improve and make a big impact in the future of basketball program.

Other awards included those for "most improved" and team captains.

The following players were recognized at the March 27 banquet:

Mr. Basketball: Sam Lecci

JV

Most Improved: Austin Sirovina

Team Captain: Peter Jakus

White Team: Chase Leonardi

Mr. Basketball: Virgil Hammond

VARSITY

Free-Throw Ladder Champion: Terrence Garner

Most Improved: Jordan Hoffmeier

Mr. Basketball: Riley Shelton

All-Conference Honorable Mention: Terrence Garner and Casey Magyar

Scholar-Athlete Award: Jordan Hoffmeier

Dedication Award: Terrence Garner

Knight Award: Tim Brever - for character, commitment, accountability and servanthood to his team and program. The Knight Award is the highest honor a player can receive.
