Thanksgiving Meals For All

Oak Creek Community Center served up a free dinner Wednesday night.

'Twas the night before Thanksgiving, and for the sixth year, the opened its doors for a free Thanksgiving meal.

About 500 were expected to attend the "Evening of Blessings” event held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Local faith-based organizations and students from Oak Creek schools combined to provide close to 75 volunteers for the event, Community Center Executive Director Rich Duchniak said.

Financial support from several Oak Creek area businesses covered the dinner expense.

Duchniak said organizers targeted the dinner largely toward seniors and those living in government-subsidized housing, but anyone with an appetite was welcome.
