Wisconsin GAB to Extend Filing Deadlines Due to Extreme Cold

MADISON – With Wisconsin facing extreme cold temperatures that have closed schools and governments across the state, the Government Accountability Board will provide a one day extension to those entities that close on January  7th.

A memorandum obtained from the Government Accountability Board says that if in the event a government or school district is ordered to be closed by an authorized official that the day would be considered a holiday.  Therefore, the filing deadline becomes Wednesday January 8th by 5:00 PM.   For candidates running for school board, the only way that the extension would be applied is if the district’s administrative office is closed.

As of Monday afternoon, numerous school districts across the state including Green Bay, Appleton, Madison, Milwaukee, and La Crosse have announced that schools will be closed on Tuesday.  However, some districts that have closed for Tuesday will keep their administrative offices open negating a one day extension to the nominating signature deadline.
