The National Girls Rugby Championship is taking place through Sunday at the Franksville joint park on Northwestern Avenue.
Franksville Park is host this weekend to the 2013 National Girls Rugby Championship to 24 teams from across the country, including Oak Creek. The tourney has its own Facebook page where fans can check the status of their team. In the second round of play, Oak Creek came out on top over Armstrong, 27 to 15 in the Festival Division. The championship match at 12:30 p.m. Sunday will be streamed live online.

George Webb Restaurant is once again predicting a 12-game winning streak. If the Milwaukee Brewers make it, the restaurant will give away free burgers.
George Webb is predicting a 12-game winning streak for the Brewers and last time their prediction came true the restaurant gave out 168,194 free burgers throughout the state. The restaurant chain plans to do the same giveaway if the Brewers make to the 12th win, according to a release. They are pretty close to hitting that streak again. The Brewers won their ninth straight game Tuesday, a 6-3 win over the San Diego Padres. George Webb’s General Manager Ryan Stamm said, “This is such an exciting start of the year for the team. The Green Bay Packers have released their 2013 schedule and will open the regular season vs. the 49ers for the second straight year and at San Francisco for the first time. Four prime-time games, subject to flexible scheduling, are highlighted, as well as a Thanksgiving contest at Detroit. The Packers’ bye will be held in week four. Joe Koch, who won more than 100 games as Oak Creek head football coach, has been inducted into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Former Oak Creek Head Football Coach Joe Koch was inducted into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame over the weekend. Koch coached the Knights from 1992 to 2005, compiling a record of 107-36. His overall record as a head coach, which also includes stints at Whitefish Bay Dominican and Milwaukee Pius, is 145-60. He won a state championship, twice coached teams to state runner-up finishes and appeared in the state semifinal three other times. Five of his players went on to play in the NFL. He is currently an assistant coach at Brookfield Central, though he still works in the Oak Creek-Franklin School District as a teacher at East Middle School. Koch was part of a class of 19 people inducted by the WFCA.

March Madness begins Thursday and Friday with first-round games and Wisconsin and Marquette both are seeded in the upper half of their respective brackets. A victory by Wisconsin will pit the Badgers against either Kansas State or the winner of a Wednesday play-in game between Boise State and LaSalle. Franklin's huge fourth-quarter comeback sinks the Oak Creek girls basketball team's season.
A season to remember for the Oak Creek girls' basketball team came to an abrupt end Thursday night. The Franklin Sabers used a 20-7 fourth quarter advantage to pull a 58-53 upset and shock the top-seeded Knights in the sectional semifinal. Oak Creek led most of the way and took a 46-38 lead into the fourth quarter. But after the Sabers' huge comeback in the final frame, Oak Creek's dream season concluded far sooner than they hoped. The Knights had not lost since their opening game in late November, running off 23 wins in a row and climbing to No. 2 in the Associated Press state poll. The Franklin Combined team, which includes gymnasts from Oak Creek, set a state record in taking home another championship.
The Franklin Combined gymnastics team, which includes gymnasts from Oak Creek, Muskego, Whitnall and Franklin, has won its third straight state title. And that's not all—they did it by setting a state record score of 150.516, beating the previous mark of 148.833. The team fought off Burlington Co-op to win the 10-team meet Saturday at Wisconsin Rapids. See the Journal Sentinel for more coverage.

Oak Creek faces West Allis Central to start what could be a deep postseason run.
It's been more than three months since the Oak Creek girls basketball team lost a game. And the Knights are hoping that opening night defeat to Milwaukee Pius is still their only blemish about two-and-a-half weeks from now. The 21-1 Knights, ranked No. 2 in the Associated Press state poll and the top-ranked team in the Journal Sentinel's area poll, begin state tournament play with a home game at 7 p.m. Friday against West Allis Central. Should Oak Creek prevail over Central, they would play Saturday against the winner of West Allis Hale-Racine Case. Four wins stand between Oak Creek and a trip to a Green Bay for the state finals.
