Relay Race Will Bring Thousands of Runners Through Oak Creek

More than 4,500 runners will participate in the Ragnar Relay Series June 7-8. The race starts in Madison Friday morning and finishes in Chicago on Saturday.

More than 4,500 runners will pass through Oak Creek on June 7 and 8 as part of the Ragnar Relay Series. The 200-mile overnight relay begins in Madison early Friday morning and ends at Lincoln Park in Chicago on Saturday. Officials anticipate teams will enter Oak Creek—on Drexel Avenue—about 9:30 p.m. They will make their way to an exchange at Oak Creek High School and then to another exchange at Parkway Apostolic Church, 10940 S. Nicholson Road, before continuing south. The last runners are expected to leave Oak Creek by 7:30 a.m. Saturday. According to the city, participants are required to wear reflective vests, headlamps and LED lights during the nighttime hours, obey all traffic laws and stay with the normal flow of pedestrian traffic…

DSHA 3rd, Catholic Memorial 4th in National Rugby Championships in Caledonia

Hundreds of rugby players from all over the country came to Caledonia to play in the 2013 National Girls Rugby Championship this weekend, including teams from DSHA, Catholic Memorial, Oak Creek and Tosa/Brookfield.

Twenty-four teams from across the country — including teams from Oak Creek, Brookfield, Waukesha and Milwaukee — played at the Caledonia-Mount Pleasant Park in the 2013 National Girls Rugby Championship this weekend. In Division 1, Divine Savior Holy Angels High School defeated Catholic Memorial of Waukesha 27-12 for third place. They were the only two Wisconsin schools in the competition portion. Oak Creek, the Wauwatosa/Brookfield combined team and Kettle Moraine all played in the Festival Division with the junior varsity team from Armstrong MN. Oak Creek Advances in National Girls Rugby Championship

The National Girls Rugby Championship is taking place through Sunday at the Franksville joint park on Northwestern Avenue.

Franksville Park is host this weekend to the 2013 National Girls Rugby Championship to 24 teams from across the country, including Oak Creek. The tourney has its own Facebook page where fans can check the status of their team. In the second round of play, Oak Creek came out on top over Armstrong, 27 to 15 in the Festival Division. The championship match at 12:30 p.m. Sunday will be streamed live online.

Free George Webb Burgers if Brewers Win Next 3 Games

George Webb Restaurant is once again predicting a 12-game winning streak. If the Milwaukee Brewers make it, the restaurant will give away free burgers.

George Webb is predicting a 12-game winning streak for the Brewers and last time their prediction came true the restaurant gave out 168,194 free burgers throughout the state. The restaurant chain plans to do the same giveaway if the Brewers make to the 12th win, according to a release. They are pretty close to hitting that streak again. The Brewers won their ninth straight game Tuesday, a 6-3 win over the San Diego Padres.  George Webb’s General Manager Ryan Stamm said, “This is such an exciting start of the year for the team. You can bet that we’ll be cheering the crew on to 12 straight and beyond.” Burgers fans around the state are hoping they make it. They take on the Padres again at 9:10 p.m. (local time)  Wednesday. The Green Bay Packers have released their 2013 schedule.

The Green Bay Packers have released their 2013 schedule and will open the regular season vs. the 49ers for the second straight year and at San Francisco for the first time. Four prime-time games, subject to flexible scheduling, are highlighted, as well as a Thanksgiving contest at Detroit. Former Oak Creek Football Coach Inducted Into Hall of Fame

Joe Koch, who won more than 100 games as Oak Creek head football coach, has been inducted into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Former Oak Creek Head Football Coach Joe Koch was inducted into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame over the weekend. Koch coached the Knights from 1992 to 2005, compiling a record of 107-36. His overall record as a head coach, which also includes stints at Whitefish Bay Dominican and Milwaukee Pius, is 145-60. He won a state championship, twice coached teams to state runner-up finishes and appeared in the state semifinal three other times. Five of his players went on to play in the NFL. He is currently an assistant coach at Brookfield Central, though he still works in the Oak Creek-Franklin School District as a teacher at East Middle School. Koch was part of a class of 19 people inducted by the WFCA.

When Do Wisconsin and Marquette Play in March Madness?

The Badgers and Golden Eagles both received their assignments in the 2013 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. Find out when they play and how to watch them.

March Madness begins Thursday and Friday with first-round games and Wisconsin and Marquette both are seeded in the upper half of their respective brackets. A victory by Wisconsin will pit the Badgers against either Kansas State or the winner of a Wednesday play-in game between Boise State and LaSalle. Marquette would be pitted against either Butler or Bucknell in the second round. The tournament’s top four seeds are Louisville, Indiana, Gonzaga and Kansas. Also see:
