New Fire Station Plans Moving Forward

The station will be constructed at the same time as the library and city hall, though at a different location.

Lost in the shuffle of the Drexel Town Square project and construction of a new city hall and library is a new fire station that will be built at the same time. Preliminary plans for how the fire station might be laid out at 255 E. Centennial Drive, across from the post office, were presented last week. It will be built on a portion of 15 wooded acres the city received for free as part of a development agreement. A representative of Bray Architects, which is designing all three civic buildings, told the Oak Creek Common Council that planners are "treading lightly" when it comes to preserving that green space. "We want to be stewards of the environment within the existing forestry that's there," said Michael Hacker of Bray Architects. Bray …

There is quite a bit of traffic on Centennial ave which is only a two way road. It is not as roomy as Puetz ave for the fire dept to come out on from the fire dept. Are they planning on widening the road too??   more ›

Bray Architects Will Design New City Hall, Library, Fire Station

Both the company and city say they are excited to get going on creating three new civic buildings for Oak Creek. Construction is set to begin next year.

The level of excitement between Oak Creek and Bray Architects about the city's new library, city hall and fire station seems mutual. For Bray Architects, it's getting to design "signature" buildings in the middle of a high-profile redevelopment project at the former Delphi property, near the corner of Drexel and Howell avenues. A team of city officials who reviewed potential architects came away impressed with Bray's deep experience with public buildings and strong project and design teams. The group selected Bray out of five firms, calling the company a "natural fit" for the city's plans. Bray Architects officially came on board Tuesday night with unanimous approval of the Oak Creek Common Council. "What really excited us is that you want…

The city already owns the land where the current station is at and they do not need to cut down a very high quality woods to build it. The city already owns Miller Park. Why don't they build it there? That is about as logical as building it on Centennial. The city does not have that many high quality woods left and with Emerald Ash Borer in OC the last thing the city should be doing is cutting …   more ›

Architect Picked For New Library, City Hall, Fire Station

Oak Creek would pay Bray Architects about $1.2 million to help design three new civic buildings.

Oak Creek would spend up to $1.28 million for architectural and other related services in connection with a new Oak Creek city hall, library and fire station, under a proposal. After reviewing 12 proposals and meeting with five firms, a committee of city officials picked Bray Architects to provide design, construction documents, bidding, inspection services and commissioning. The Oak Creek Common Council is scheduled to vote Tuesday on authorizing the city to negotiate a contract not to exceed $1,279,250. Bray Architects stood out because of its experience with public building design and construction, low fees and strong project team, according to a report to council members. A committee made up of fire department, library and other top …
