Rain Results in Icy Roads, Multiple Accidents Sunday

Two intersections in Oak Creek were the site of several crashes as drivers were unable to stop due to slippery conditions.

A steady drizzle Sunday resulted in slippery conditions at two major intersections in Oak Creek. Multiple crashes were reported at the intersection of 13th Street and Drexel Avenue, as well as Howell and Rawson avenues, Sunday afternoon and evening. No injures were reported. The first crash came at 3:50 p.m. at 13th and Drexel, when a 29-year-old Oak Creek woman slid through the intersection and knocked down a stoplight in the median, according to a police report. She was cited for driving too fast for conditions. About an hour later, a driver southbound on 13th Street was slowing for traffic when she hit a patch of ice, swerved to avoid the vehicle in front of her and went off the road, according to a police report. Accident Total Drops As Winter Weather Continues

Fewer accidents were reported on Oak Creek streets Friday compared to earlier this month.

Drivers appeared to have adjusted once again to the winter weather, as the accident total on Oak Creek streets Friday dipped signficantly from the first snowfall of the season. According to the Oak Creek Police Department logbook, an accident was reported about 6 p.m. Friday on Nicholson Road when a driver went into the ditch. She injured her neck when the airbag deployed but declined to be transported to the hospital. Another accident was reported at Howell Avenue and Oakwood Road when a driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a wooden fence. One of the people in the vehicle sustained a cut to the face from the windshield breaking. A few more minor incidents on local streets were reported, but numbers were way down from the first …
