Mayor Steve Scaffidi last week issued a city proclamation to Trattoria di Carlo in honor of the restaurant's charitable contributions and 10th anniversary. In particular, Scaffidi recognized the restaurant and its owner, Carlo Pedone, for donating food for a Feb. 23 fundraiser for Haley Rae Cabreza, whose family is facing a large amount of medical expenses. The event at the Salvation Army raised nearly $15,000. Di Carlo celebrated its 10th anniversary in December.
Success came almost instantly for di Carlo, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this week and reigns as arguably Oak Creek's most popular restaurant.
On Dec. 4, 2002, Carlo Pedone opened Trattoria di Carlo restaurant in Oak Creek with five seats at the bar and 14 tables. Almost instantly, waits for a table at the authentic Italian restaurant reached an hour to two hours. Couples came to the restaurant for first dates, engagements, wedding parties and baby showers. Families celebrated birthdays; business leaders shared ideas over lunch. Many others ordered food for pick-up, or got meals catered in. Business was so great that di Carlo expanded in 2007 to a bigger dining room and bar area. And ten years to the day after he swung open the doors at 8469 S.
