Prison for St. Matthew Secretary Who Embezzled Money

Darlene Vodvarka was sentenced Tuesday to three years in prison and five years of extended supervision in Milwaukee County Circuit Court.

The former St. Matthew Parish secretary who embezzled more than $200,000 from the church has been sentenced to prison. Darlene Vodvarka pleaded guilty to the embezzlment charges, and was sentenced today to three years in prison and five years extended superivison. She was also ordered to pay $250,000 in restitution to Catholic Mutual Group and $150,000 to St. Matthew Church. Prosecutors charged Vodvarka in December with two counts of theft of more than $10,000. Investigators said she manipulated records connected with a church fundraising program and tuition payments from families, and pocketed the funds. Vodvarka initially denied the allegations, but entered a guilty plea in February. She could have served as many as 10 years in prison …

Report: St. Matthew Suing Former Secretary

Suit comes on the heels of embezzlement case.

St. Matthew Parish has sued former secretary Darlene Vodvarka, according to a Journal Sentinel report, just a few weeks after she pleaded guilty in an embezzlement case. The suit claims she embezzled more than $400,000 from the church between 2005 and 2011 and also names her husband, Edward Vodvarka, as a defendant, according to the report. Click here for the entire JS story. Vodvarka was charged in Milwaukee County Circut Court with stealing $217,000 by manipulating records connected with a church fundraising program. She pleaded guilty last month and will be sentenced March 20.

Accused St. Matthew Embezzler Pleads Guilty

The former St. Matthew Parish secretary accused of stealing more than $200,000 from the church has pleaded guilty. According to online court records, Darlene Vodvarka changed her plea to guilty on Friday. She had been charged with two felony counts of theft of more than $10,000. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for March 20. She could face up to 20 years in prison and $50,000 in fines. A message left for her attorney was not immediately returned Sunday. A former St. Matthew secretary accused of embezzling more than $200,000 from the school waived a preliminary hearing Wednesday. Darlene A. Vodvarka, 57, of Oak Creek, waived the hearing in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Wednesday and is now clear to stand trial on two counts of theft of more than $10,000. If convicted, she could face up to 20 years in prison and $50,000 in fines. Oak Creek Woman Accused of Stealing From St. Matthew

Secretary allegedly stole $217,000 and manipulated numbers to hide the theft.

A 57-year-old Oak Creek woman is facing charges after she allegedly embezzled $217,000 while working as a secretary at St. Matthew Parish and School. Darlene A. Vodvarka was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Tuesday with two counts of theft of more than $10,000. If convicted, she could face up to 20 years in prison and $50,000 in fines. According to the criminal complaint: Officials at St. Matthew contacted Oak Creek police earlier this year after they discovered discrepancies between the amount of money the school was supposed to receive in tuition payments and how much had actually been deposited.
