Car Rental Service Proposal Moves Forward

Dollar Thrifty plans to open a facility on College Avenue to maintain, clean and store vehicles.

A proposal for Dollar Thrifty car rental service to open a facility on College Avenue in Oak Creek has moved closer to fruition. The Oak Creek Common Council approved a conditional-use permit for the business to operate at 561 W. College Ave., previously the site of Envirotest Wisconsin. Dollar Thrifty plans to use the Oak Creek site only to maintain, clean and store vehicles, while keeping its regular customer-service operations at Mitchell International Airport. Plans call for adding onto and remodeling the building and creating a 307-stall parking lot for rental cars in the back.

Dollar Thrifty car rental service would replace the now-closed Envirotest Wisconsin under a proposal recommended Tuesday by the Oak Creek Plan Commission. Plans call for adding onto and remodeling the building, 561 W. College Ave., and creating a 307-stall parking lot for rental cars in the back. The front parking lot would also be expanded.
