Milwaukee Man Charged in High-Speed Chase

21-year-old sped away from an Oak Creek police officer on I-94 after borrowing his brother's car, according to a criminal complaint.

A 21-year-old Milwaukee man has been charged in connection with a high-speed chase on Interstate 94 in June. Edgar Joel Sabino-Lopez was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Thursday with one count of attempting to flee an officer. If convicted, he faces up to 3 ½ years in prison and $10,000 in fines. According to the criminal complaint: At 8:21 a.m. June 23, an Oak Creek police officer on patrol spotted Sabino-Lopez squealing his tires and temporarily lose control of his vehicle near S. 13th Street and Drexel Avenue. The officer followed Sabino-Lopez until he got onto northbound I-94 at Rawson Avenue, where the cop tried to pull him over. Sabino-Lopez was in the middle lane, slowed down and stopped for a short period before starting …

Interstate 94 Reopens After Truck Damages Bridge

Highway 20 lanes also opened

UPDATE 2:05 p.m.: All lanes are open. Officials with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation said the truck did not cause any structural damage. UPDATE 11:30 a.m.: Cars are again allowed on eastbound Interstate 94 after officials assessed damage to the Highway 20 overpass bridge. There are still closures in both directions on Highway 20.  EARLIER STORY: Traffic on eastbound Interstate 94 is being diverted at Highway 20 because of major damage to the overpass bridge. WisDOT to Install New Lighting in Marquette Interchange; Lane Closure Expected This Week

The 'digital chevron' system installed will be a first in the state.

Commuters, take note: The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will implement a new technology in the Marquette Interchange from the I-94 eastbound ramp to northbound I-43 in starting July 12. The installation will close the right lane on I-94 eastbound between the 13th Street exit and the connector ramp to I-43 northbound from July 12-15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. While travel times may be longer, John Oimoen, manager with WisDOT, said the operation will ultimately improve operations and safety on our transportation network.” He also said “a new dynamic chevron system is a cost-effective way to help motorists stay alert and monitor their speeds in this area.” This system is the first of its kind in Wisconsin and WisDOT said benefits…

Updated: Man Dies in Freeway Accident

Four vehicles were involved in wreck on I-94 near Puetz Road.

Updated 1:30 p.m. Editor's note: The original version of this story said the accident occurred on I-94 near Ryan Road. It was actually closer to Puetz Road. The story has been updated to reflect that information. One man has died after a four-vehicle accident on Interstate 94 near Puetz Road late Monday. According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office, the crash involved three semi tractor-trailers and a minivan in the northbound lanes of I-94. The man who died was driving the minivan, which was registered in Illinois. Two of the truck drivers were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to a Sheriff's Office news release.
