Owners of Sadie's say they plan to open by the end of February.
The qualifications of Laurel Red Cloud to open an Italian restaurant can hardly be questioned: a second-generation restaurateur, born of Sicilian parents and involved in the business since childhood. She will do just that in Oak Creek with Sadie's, a new Italian restaurant that will open in the former La Terraza building, 9454 S. Howell Ave. Red Cloud and her husband, Robert Penny, plan to open by the end of the month. Customers will see pastas, steaks, seafood, salads and sandwiches among the items on the menu, along with made-from-scratch sauces, dressings and soups. "We're excited for people to come in and try our food," Red Cloud said. "We're going to be introducing some unique things to the area." Red Cloud described Sadie's, which …

The station at the corner of Ryan and Howell reopened Sunday; meanwhile, for sale signs have been taken down at La Terraza.
Just in time for Christmas, the Marathon gas station reopened at the corner of Ryan and Howell. An employee at the gas station told me the business reopened Sunday under new management. It had been closed since November; the employee said the owner had some sort of issue with the previous management, but now new management is in place and they plan to be open for the forseeable future. I've been told the owner is Mohammad Nazer, and that he also owns or used to own the building across the street that was La Terraza (He also owns Smile's Liquor, 7872 S. Howell Ave.). Nazer has not returned any of my calls, but I noted today that not only has the gas station reopened, but the "for sale" signs have been taken down at La Terraza. La Terraza …

The owner of the popular Mexican restaurant at Ryan and Howell was told to vacate the building by Sept. 1, according to the city clerk's office.
Popular Mexican restaurant La Terraza, 9454 S. Howell Ave., has closed. The city clerk's office was informed the building has been sold and La Terraza's owner, which leased space, was told to vacate by Sept. 1, Deputy City Clerk Christa Miller said. For-sale signs have been up on the building, at the corner of Howell Avenue and Ryan Road, for some time. La Terraza owner Jose Alvarez told the city he hopes to open in another location, but wasn't sure if it would be in Oak Creek, if it happens at all, Miller said. Alvarez could not be reached. The phone number listed to La Terraza is disconnected, and no one was at the building when Patch stopped by Thursday. La Terraza offered reasonably-priced authentic Mexican food and featured an …

La Terraza squeaks out a victory.
Where do people in Oak Creek go when they want a margarita? There are plenty of good local choices in the mix, as this week's Readers' Choice poll showed. But when all the votes and comments were tabulated, La Terraza emerged as the winner of the Best Margarita In Town contest. The restaurant at the corner of Howell and Ryan offers reasonably-priced, authentic Mexican food. When the weather gets warmer, customers can enjoy La Terraza's beautiful enclosed terrace. As for its margaritas, they come in peach, lime, melon, coconut, strawberry and more delicious flavors. So congrats to La Terraza and thanks to everyone who voted. Stay tuned for the next Readers' Choice poll in the near future.
