Patch Spring Tour: Victory Martial Arts Aims for Lasting Impact

The gym near the corner of Ryan and Chicago has grown fast in its first three months.

It's hard to imagine a place in Oak Creek where "Yes sir!" is said more than in Victory Martial Arts. We've written about the martial arts-gym at 9549 S. Chicago Road before. But I had to get a look for myself, and the new business was just too good to pass up for the Patch Spring Tour. After talking with head trainer Leonard Henderson, it's pretty clear that instilling the "Yes sir!" response in his students is only one small component of his instruction. Henderson says all of the classes taught at Victory are structured to emphasize these core values: discipline, communication, self-esteem, honesty, discipline, belief and respect. New Martial Arts Gym Has Family Touch

Gym on Chicago Road opened its doors this week.

Duke Roufus is gone from the corner of Ryan and Chicago roads, but a new mixed-martial arts gym stepped into its place this week.  Victory Martial Arts, 9549 S. Chicago Road, has replaced what was Duke Roufus Kickboxing and Martial Arts. The new business strives to provide fun, confidence-building martial arts training to kids of all ages. The gym also teaches adult classes and kickboxing, according to head trainer Leonard Henderson, “but will now take on more of a tae-kwon-do philosophy and offer a more family-friendly environment.” Henderson runs the day-to-day operations at the gym.
