The 47-foot high structure will be built at MATC's Oak Creek campus, pending approval from the Federal Aviation Administration.
The Oak Creek Plan Commission on Tuesday gave Milwaukee Area Technical College the go-ahead to build a 47-foot wind turbine at its Oak Creek campus, 6665 S. Howell Ave. The turbine will be used in the school's Energy Conservation and Advanced Manufacturing curriculum. It is much smaller than turbines typically seen at wind farms, where they can stretch more than 100 feet high. Officials said this turbine likely won't be seen outside the campus. Because of its proximity to the airport, the turbine could not be more than 50 feet high and needs approval from the Federal Aviation Administration. Also on Tuesday, the commission delayed action on Aldi's renovation plans, at the company's request. It could come back to the commission as early as …

The 47-foot high structure, smaller than the turbines typically seen on wind farms, will be reviewed Tuesday by the Oak Creek Plan Commission.
Milwaukee Area Technical College wants to erect a 47-foot high wind turbine at its Oak Creek campus, 6665 S. Howell Ave. The wind turbine would be used in the school's Energy Conservation and Advanced Manufacturing curriculum, according to a report to Oak Creek Plan Commission members. It's smaller than what is typically seen on wind farms, where turbines can reach well over 100 feet. "Given its location on the MATC campus and relatively small size, staff does not feel that the structure will have much of a visible impact on the surrounding area," according to the report. Because of the proximity to Mitchell International Airport, the wind turbine couldn't be more than 50 feet high. The proposal will be discussed at the Plan Commission …

On his way home, however, he got into a car accident, which was staged Thursday on the west end of the campus, 6665 S. Howell Ave. Students training to become police officers, firefighters and paramedics responded.
