Rummage Sales Return to Community Center

Saturday's event in the community center parking lot is the first of nine scheduled for 2013.

The Oak Creek Community Center's annual slate of rummage sales begins Saturday, May 4. Sales are held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the center, 8580 S. Howell Ave. Saturday's event is the first of nine scheduled at the center this year. Sales are also set for May 18, June 8 and 22, July 20, Aug. 17, Sept. 7 and 21 and Oct. 5. In the event of inclement weather, rummages are re-scheduled for the following Saturday. Vendor spaces are sold out for May but good availability remains for the other dates, Community Center Director Rich Duchniak said. What Bands Do You Want at Summer Concert Series?

The Oak Creek Community Center's summer concert series celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, and organizers are looking for public input on the lineup.

It hasn't felt like it lately, but summer really isn't far away. For the Oak Creek Community Center, that means the start of the summer concert series. And this summer marks the 10th year of free outdoor concerts on the community center grounds, 8580 S. Howell Ave. Shows will be held on five Wednesday nights in June, July and August. The city's Celebrations Commission, which helps organize the concerts, wants to make the series' 10th anniversary a special year and is asking for the public's input on this summer's lineup. Last year's slate featured AARPer's Bizarre, the Beatles tribute band Liverpool '64, Southern Tradition, Pat McCurdy, In Black N White and Mt. Olive. Firefighters' All-You-Can-Eat Spaghetti Dinner April 19

Tickets are on sale now for the annual dinner, which raises money for community charities.

The Oak Creek firefighters will host their annual all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 19 at the Oak Creek Community Center, 8580 S. Howell Ave. The dinner, which also features salad, garlic bread and homemade desserts, raises money for community charities. Tickets are available at Oak Creek fire stations, the community center and from any Oak Creek firefighter. Tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for kids age 5 to 12 and free for those younger than 5.

Bring Your Dancing Shoes to Community Center Saturday

The fundraising dance Saturday night features Mt. Olive and an Oak Creek resident running in a Woman of the Year contest.

A Saturday night dance at the Oak Creek Community Center will raise money for the center's scholarships fund. The event features local band Mt. Olive and Oak Creek resident Carrie Bilicki, who is running in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Woman of the Year contest. Bilicki is raising funds for blood cancer research in honor of local children who are blood cancer survivors. Doors open at 7 p.m., with Mt. Olive to take the stage from 8 p.m. to midnight. Attendees pay a $5 cover charge at the door.

Sunday: Community Center's St. Patty's Dinner

The Oak Creek Community Center will host its annual St. Patrick's Day dinner Sunday.

The Oak Creek Community Center's annual St. Patty's Day dinner will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $8.50 in advance, $10 at the door, $6 for children age 7 to 12 and free for kids 6 and younger. Tickets can be purchased at the community center, 8580 S. Howell Ave., and Butcher Block Meat Market, 9340 S. Chicago Road. Butcher Block also provides the corned beef. The event serves as a fundraiser for the community center and Oak Creek Lions Club.

Community Center Offers Tastes of Italy, Beer, Wine

A Valentine's wine and beer tasting event and the Taste of Italy will be held the weekend of Feb. 15 at the Oak Creek Community Center.

Two events next weekend at the Oak Creek Community Center offer a variety of tastes to whet your palette. On Feb. 15, the community center will host its fourth-annual Valentine's wine and beer tasting event, which features more than 20 quality wines and 20 Wisconsin craft beers, commemorative glasses and appetizers. The event also includes live music from Sweet Music of Oak Creek. Tickets are $35 per person and $15 for designated drivers and can be purchased online. The next night, the Taste of Italy returns to the community center. Chicken Parmesan, four cheese ravioli, Italian sausage, penne pasta and much more are on the menu. Church Fundraiser Features Old School Rock

Two classic rock bands will play the Oak Creek Community Center this weekend to benefit St. James Church.

Sounds from the 1950s, 60s and 70s will fill the Oak Creek Community Center ballroom on Saturday during the second annual fundraiser dance for St. James Catholic Church of Franklin. The concert will be held from 7 p.m. to midnight at the center, 8580 S. Howell Ave., and feature a pair of old school bands: Liverpool '64 and Close Enuf. Liverpool '64 is a Beatles tribute band set to play from 7 to 9:15 p.m. Close Enuf, which also specializes in classic rock, is on stage from 9:45 p.m. to midnight. The event also features raffles, cash bar and table snacks. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10. For more information, call the community center at (414) 768-5840.

500+ Served Thanksgiving Meals at Community Center

Tickets were distributed to senior living homes, faith-based groups and government-subsidized housing facilities.

More than 500 people got a free Thanksgiving meal courtesy of the Oak Creek Community Center Wednesday night. Community Center Rich Duchniak said they distributed tickets to faith-based groups, senior living homes, government-subsidized housing facilities and those without families. However, anyone was welcome to eat on the eve of Thanksgiving, he said.

Breakfast With Santa Returns to Community Center

Two events at the community center in December will also feature all-you-can-eat pancakes and stocking stuffers.

The Oak Creek Community Center will hold Breakfasts With Santa from 9 to 11 a.m. Dec. 9 and Dec. 16. Attendees will get stocking stuffers for the kids and enjoy all-you-can-eat pancakes with sides. Thursday: Free Movie At Community Center

The first 100 kids will receive free Halloween treat bags.

The Oak Creek Community Center will hold a free sceening of Madagascar 3 at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Doors open at 6 p.m. at the community center, 8580 S.
